Self-Represented Litigant Clinic Schedule

Legal Services of Northern California provides free legal assistance to consumers representing themselves in civil case types, as listed under the General Information section.  Services are provided every Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and every first and third Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the El Dorado County Law Library located at 550 Main St., Placerville, CA

 

Family Law Information Center Workshops

All workshops are at the El Dorado County Law Library at 550 Main Street, Placerville, CA 95667, (530) 621-6433.  You must arrive on time.  Please bring copies of the orders and/or pleadings in your case, proof of income for the last 12 months, and anything else provided below for your workshop

 

WORKSHOPS

 

·  PETITION OR RESPONSE TO PETITION FOR DISSOLUTION WORKSHOP

            (To begin a divorce action)

            Every Thursday at 9:30 A.M.

 

·  ESTABLISH PARENTAGE

            (To establish paternity for a child born outside of marriage; first step to custody and support orders)

            First, third & fifth Thursdays of the month at 12:30 P.M.

 

·  ORDER TO SHOW CAUSE/NOTICE OF MOTION WORKSHOP

            (To request or respond to request for orders for custody, visitation, support)

            Every Wednesday at 9:30 A.M.

 

·  INCOME AND EXPENSE WORKSHOP

            (Must be completed and filed whenever support is at issue)

            Every Wednesday at 11:00 A.M.

 

·  DECLARATION OF DISCLOSURE WORKSHOP

            (Must be completed in order to obtain a final judgment of divorce)

            Every Thursday at 11:00 A.M.  

            Bring a list of assets and debts acquired by the parties.

 

·  FINDINGS AND ORDER AFTER HEARING WORKSHOP

            Every Wednesday at 12:30 P.M. 

Bring a copy of the minute order from your hearing.  If support orders were made, bring a copy of the computer support calculation (dissomaster).  If custody and visitation orders were made based on the Mediator’s Report, bring a copy of the Mediator’s Report that is signed by the judge (all can be obtained at the court clerk’s office at 495 Main Street, Placerville.

 

·  REQUEST DEFAULT WORKSHOP

            (Available when other party fails to respond within 30 of service to a petition for            dissolution or to establish parentage)

            Second and Fourth Thursdays of the month at 12:30 P.M.

What Workshop Should I Attend And What Do I Need To Bring With Me?

 

Petition for Dissolution (Divorce) Workshop:

If you want to file or respond to a Petition for Dissolution (divorce):

     Attend the Petition for Dissolution workshop on Thursday at 9:30 am;

Bring a list of the assets and debts acquired by the parties during the marriage and proof of your income for the last 12 months (W2 or tax return for the prior year and 3 most recent pay stubs); If you are responding to a Petition for Dissolution, also bring a copy of the papers served on you.

 

Establish Parentage Workshop:

If you want to establish or respond to a request to establish parentage for a child born to unmarried parents (the first step in acquiring custody, visitation and child support orders for child born outside of marriage):

Attend the Establish Parentage workshop on first, third, and fifth Thursdays at 12:30 pm;

Bring the Declaration of Paternity signed by parties (if any).

 

Order to Show Cause/Notice of Motion Workshop:

If you want to obtain or respond to a request to obtain or to modify custody and visitation orders, child or spousal support orders, or other orders in a family law matter:

Attend the Order to Show Cause/Notice of Motion workshop on Wednesday at 9:30 am;

Bring a copy of the orders and pleadings in your case, proof of your income for the last 12 months (W2 or tax return for the prior year and 3 most recent pay stubs), and any attachments you plan to use as evidence to support your request or response.

 

Income and Expense Workshop:

If you want to prepare, or have been ordered by the judge to prepare and file, an Income and Expense Declaration (I&E):

Attend the Income and Expense (I&E) workshop on Wednesday at 11:00 am;

Bring a copy of the orders and pleadings in your case and proof of your income for the last 12 months (W2 or tax return for the prior year and 3 most recent pay stubs).

 

Declaration of Disclosure Workshop:

If you want to prepare a Declaration of Disclosure (a requirement in order to obtain a final judgment of dissolution):

Attend the Declaration of Disclosure workshop on Thursday at 11:00 am;

Bring a list of all the assets and debts acquired by the parties during the marriage, and proof of your income for the last 12 months (W2 or tax return for the prior year and 3 most recent pay stubs).

 

Findings and Order After Hearing Workshop:

If you want to prepare a Findings and Order After Hearing:

    Attend the Findings and Order workshop on Wednesday at 12:30 pm;

     Bring a copy of the minute order from your hearing, the child support Dissomaster calculation (if child support orders are involved), and, if custody and visitation orders are involved, a copy of the Mediator’s Report that is signed by the judge (all can be obtained by going to the court clerk’s office at 495 Main Street, Placerville).

 

Request Default Workshop:

If you want to prepare a Request to Enter Default (available when other party has not filed a response to your petition and more than 30 days has elapsed since service of petition):

Attend the Request Default workshop on the second and fourth Thursdays at 12:30 pm

Bring a copy of proof of service of summons and proof of your income for the last 12 months.

Directions to the Placerville Law Library: From Hwy 50, exit on Bedford Street and proceed south one block to Main Street. Turn left on Main Street and proceed east one block. Law Library is located on the south side of Main Street at 550 Main St.
